Devel Motors has ambitious plans for the Sixteen, offering three distinct models to cater to different preferences. The base model features a V8 engine, generating between 1,500 and 2,000 horsepower (1,100–1,500 kW; 1,500–2,000 PS). For those seeking more power, the V16 engine version delivers around 3,006 horsepower (2,242 kW; 3,048 PS) and 2,407 lb-ft (3,263 Nm) of torque. The pinnacle of this lineup is a track-only variant with a quad-turbo V16 engine, pushing an incredible 5,007 horsepower (3,734 kW; 5,076 PS) and 3,757 lb-ft (5,094 Nm) of torque.
In June 2022, Devel Motors produced a Sixteen with a V8 engine. However, its performance remains unverified, leaving enthusiasts eagerly awaiting more details. The journey of the Devel Sixteen began in 2013 when the Dubai-based automaker announced its vision of a 5,000-horsepower V16-powered supercar capable of exceeding 300 mph. Skeptics abounded, but Devel’s determination never wavered.
Devel Motors, a Dubai-based boutique automaker, announced its vision for a 5,000-hp V16-powered supercar back in 2013. Skepticism greeted this ambitious claim, but the company remained undeterred. They sought the expertise of Michigan-based Steve Morris Engines to turn their vision into reality.
To realize their lofty goals, Devel Motors enlisted the expertise of Steve Morris Engines, a Michigan-based company renowned for high-horsepower engines. Steve Morris, the mastermind behind the company, accepted the challenge, embarking on a mission to design a 16-cylinder engine that could achieve 5,000 horsepower on a dynamometer while maintaining reliability.
Morris’s approach involved several innovative decisions. Instead of producing two enormous cylinder heads, he opted for four separate heads to reduce costs, simplify repairs, and enhance reliability. The 16 cylinders displace 12.3 liters, and with the right combination of fuel and boost levels, the engine achieved the desired 5,000 hp on a dyno.
While the 5,000-hp engine is geared towards the track variant of the Devel Sixteen, the plan is to start casting blocks to reduce costs and improve cooling. Cast aluminum blocks, though not as strong as billet blocks, are expected to produce around 3,000 hp, with naturally aspirated versions making about 1,000 hp. These are the versions anticipated to make their way to the U.S. if the Devel Sixteen becomes a reality.
Devel Motors has exclusive rights to the engine for automotive use, but Steve Morris expects to produce around 20 engines for the company, with the possibility of more if needed. For those dreaming of owning one of these powerful engines, they are out of luck for automotive applications. However, the prospect of a 5,000-hp V16 jet boat is an enticing thought.
