Bologna Airport launches SITA’s Scan&Fly self-service bag drop units
TIN news: Italy’s Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport has installed a new self-service bag drop service to speed-up check-in procedures for passengers.
Bologna is the first Italian airport to use global information technology (IT) provider SITA’s Scan&Fly bag drop units to offer a new self-service option to passengers checking in their baggage.
The travellers can use the SITA service to check-in their own luggage in less than a minute, which results in shorter queues and a faster, smoother passenger experience.
Aeroporto di Bologna CEO and managing director Nazareno Ventola said: “Our passengers value the convenience of self-service technology from a customer experience point of view.
“From the airport’s perspective, Scan&Fly helps improve the passenger flow through the airport terminal, facilitating our rapid growth.
“The self-bag drop units are the latest in a series of options we have been developing recently, aimed at providing a smooth, effortless travel experience to all our passengers, with a direct benefit for our airlines’ operations.”
The SITA Scan&Fly interface has retrofit capabilities and can be fully integrated with the company’s AirportConnect common-use platform.
Initially, the self-service bag drop units will be used by low-cost carrier Ryanair before being rolled out to other airlines.
SITA Europe president Dave Bakker said: “An increasing number of airlines and airports globally are recognising the benefits that self-bag drop can bring to passengers as well as their own operations.
“The ability to quickly and securely check-in your bag is just one of the ways we can help airports streamline the passenger process using self-service, from the moment they check-in to when they arrive at the destination.”
Earlier this year, the company launched its iBorders BorderAutomation ABCGates at Bologna Airport to expedite immigration procedures for passengers.
