Spanish company DF Núcleo has secured a new contract to deliver, install and commission advanced air traffic control (ATC) communications equipment for ATC towers and technical rooms at five Algerian airports.

The five airports, Algiers, Constantine, Ghardaia, Oran and Tamanrasset, are operated by the air navigation service provider, Enna.

The scope of the project also covers the design and delivery of aeronautical equipment to optimise operations at the control towers.

The equipment includes voice over internet protocol (VoIP) communications systems (VCS), multi-protocol and very high frequency (VHF) communications solutions, VHF direction finding (VDF) systems, as well as emergency power solutions including UPS and power distribution boards.

"The scope of the project also covers the design and delivery of aeronautical equipment to optimise operations at the control towers."

Under the terms of the contract, DF Núcleo is also responsible for providing technological solution that is based on the ULISES V5000i system, which is currently in its fifth generation.

The ULISES V5000i system helps manage critical ground / air and ground / ground communications for air traffic control operators in all air traffic management settings.

Last year, the five Algerian airports handled approximately ten million passengers, with Algiers also known as Houari Boumédiène International Airport being the sixth largest airport in the continent in terms of passenger flow.
