Airberlin to launch Toronto, Chicago routes in 2018
Oneworld member airberlin will expand its North Atlantic network in 2018 with the launch of 4X-weekly Düsseldorf-Toronto Pearson International Airport services starting May 1 and 5X-weekly Düsseldorf -Chicago O'Hare services from May 2.
“We now have three additional long-haul aircraft in our fleet … supplementing the US program with additional flights to Canada is [our] next step," airberlin CCO Götz Ahmelmann said. The airline is planning to operate approximately 100 long-haul flights per week in 2018.
Compared to 2016, airberlin is operating 13% more long-haul flights from Düsseldorf this year, for a total 57 flights a week the US. Airberlin’s US network includes 2X-daily Düsseldorf -New York (JFK) service; daily flights to Boston, Los Angeles, Orlando, Miami and San Francisco; and 3X-weekly flights to Fort Myers, Florida.
Airberlin operates a long-haul fleet of 17 Airbus A330-200s and has confirmed to ATW it will lease two Airbus A330-900neos, but has not disclosed the lessor
