Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines has taken delivery of its 17th and final Embraer E195 from Lufthansa’s former CityLine fleet, which is gradually replacing Austrian’s Fokker fleet.

Four Fokker 100s are still in operation and will be successively retired by December 2017. The Star Alliance member had a total of 21 Fokker F70/100 aircraft in service.

Austrian Airlines CEO Kay Kratky has told ATW that unit costs for the 120-seat Embraer jets are “around 9% lower than the Fokker.”

In June 2015, Austrian approved the purchase of the 17 E195s, which are valued at $900 million at list prices. Nearly three months later, Austrian began receiving the first aircraft, which was used for training purposes before transitioning into revenue service.

The first E195 flight was launched in January 2016, on the Vienna-Stuttgart route, and to date Austrian has transported more than 2 million passengers with the type.

The flag carrier of Austria has trained 600 flight attendants, 200 pilots and 80 technicians on Embraer Jets. The airline’s Embraer fleet has an average age of four years and flies to more than 70 European destinations.
