Air Lease Corp. bookings boost Boeing’s July orders above $4 billion

Air Lease Corp. (ALC) provided the bulk of Boeing’s commercial aircraft* orders in July, as the US manufacturer booked firm orders for 14 aircraft from the Los Angeles-based  lessor, valued at approximately $1.8 billion at list prices. Originally announced at the Paris Air Show in June, ALC ordered five 737 MAX 7s, seven 737 MAX 8s and two 787-9s.

Three separate unidentified customers made up the remainder of Boeing’s orders for the month, including an order for four 777-300ERs placed July 13, valued at approximately $1.4 billion. The other orders from unidentified customers were for two 747-8 freighters and a 787-8.

Boeing delivered 56 commercial aircraft in to 27 airlines, six lessors and two unidentified customers during the month. Low-cost carrier (LCC) Norwegian took delivery of four new aircraft, including three 737 MAXs and one 787-9. Four China-based airlines took three aircraft each during the month, including Air China (two 777-300ERs and a 737-800), China Eastern Airlines (two 737-800s and a 777-300ER), China Southern Airlines (all 737-800s) and Xiamen Airlines (all 737-800s).

July deliveries of 787-8s included one each to Air India and LOT Polish Airlines. Additional 787-9 deliveries included two each to Etihad Airways and Dutch lessor AerCap (from an order placed by US lessor International Lease Finance Co., which AerCap acquired in 2014); and one each to All Nippon Airways, China’s Hainan Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, LATAM Airlines Group and unidentified customer. Additional 777-300ER deliveries during the month included one each to Kuwait Airways and an unidentified customer.

Year-to-date, Boeing has delivered 397 commercial aircraft.

Boeing’s gross commercial aircraft year-to-date order total stands at 401 aircraft, valued at nearly $68 billion. Taking changes (cancellations and conversions) into account, Boeing has logged net orders for 341 aircraft through July 31 (226 737 MAX family aircraft; 43 737-800 NGs; 10 737-900ERs; one 747-8; two 747-8Fs; 16 777-300ERs; 20 777Xs; one 777F; seven 787-8s; 56 787-9s and 19 787-10s).
