Etihad Airways Airbus A330 Engine Shuts Down in Flight

An Etihad Airways Airbus A330-200, performing flight from Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to Jakarta (Indonesia), engine shut down in flight.

Aircraft was in the initial climb out of Abu Dhabi’s runway 13R when the right hand engine (Trent 772) emitted a loud bang prompting the crew to stop the climb at 3500 feet and return to Abu Dhabi for a safe landing on runway 13L about 20 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported there was the sound like an explosion from the right hand engine. The airline confirmed a technical malfunction with one of the engines.
