Russia’s Simferopol airport to receive new control tower
Russia’s state-owned Air Traffic Management Corp. (ATM Corp.) will invest RUB881.9 million ($13.8 million) into a new control tower at Simferopol International Airport (Crimea).
Russia’s state-owned Air Traffic Management Corp. (ATM Corp.) will invest RUB881.9 million ($13.8 million) into a new control tower at Simferopol International Airport(Crimea).
The agreement was signed by the airport, ATM Corp. and the government of Crimea at the Yalta International Economic Forum on April 18.
Simferopol airport said the new control tower is expected to improve air traffic management efficiency, flight safety and on-time performance. The tower is planned to be built with Russian-manufactured equipment according to international standards, the airport added.
The need for a new control tower was acknowledged as part of the airport’s renovation process. Last year the airport opened a new terminal, which can handle 6.5 million passengers per year.
The Russian government will invest RUB12.5 billion into Simferopol airport’s infrastructure, which includes the new control tower, a second 3,200 m-long runway, taxiways and aprons.
ATM Corp. is a state-owned company that includes 19 branches and serves a total area of 26 million sq km with 1.5 million flights per year.
