The Technical University of Denmark informs that the expansion of Test Centre Østerild in Denmark is ready, making it possible for the manufacturers to start casting two new test stands. Siemens Gamesa and Envision Energy will be the two test stands.

Mainly, DTU is the operator of the national test centres for large wind turbines at Østerild and Høvsøre.

In 2018, the Danish government expanded the test centre with two more test stands. After that, it was decided that Siemens Gamesa and Envision Energy would be the new test stand renters.

The test stands are permitted to erect the turbines up to 330 metres height. In addition, DTU will install two new measuring masts, a new light mast and one to move a light mast at the site.

The installation of the new masts has to do with the 4.7 km distance from the northern to the southern part of the test centre; Thus, the two light masts are to be supplemented with an extra light mast in the middle. Each of the three masts are going to be 250 metres high.

Poul Falk Nielsen, Site Manager for DTU Wind Energy in Østerild noted that both test stands have been cleared up and the necessary high voltage and fiber cables for the wind turbines have been established

According to Mr Nielsen, the turbines are expected to begin operations at the end of summer, 2019.

Concluding, the work of the contractor for the masts has been done already and the foundations have been cast.
