Frontier Airlines is making a major push in Atlanta, announcing a 40% year-over-year increase in departures and the addition of nine new routes, including flights to Aruba and Honduras.
The Denver-based ULCC made Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) a focus city in 2015 and opened a crew base in November 2021, where it now expects employment numbers to increase to more than 1,200 this year.
Frontier is currently the third-largest operator at ATL, holding a 4.5% seat capacity share, behind Delta Air Lines (77.4%) and Southwest Airlines (7.4%), according to OAG Schedules Analyser data.
Among the new routes, Frontier will launch nonstop flights to Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport and Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Other additions include flights to popular domestic leisure markets such as Fort Myers, Jacksonville and Palm Beach in Florida.
“As the third-largest airline in Atlanta, Frontier’s investment in this market is a testament to the strength of our airport, our city and our shared vision for continued growth,” says ATL interim general manager, Jan Lennon.
The nine new routes, launching in May and June 2025, will expand Frontier’s Atlanta network to 52 destinations by early July. At that point, the airline will operate approximately 363 weekly departures from ATL, up from about 250 during the same period in 2024.
This summer, ATL will be the third-largest airport in the carrier’s network, with more than 1.3 million available departure seats across the season, behind only Denver on almost 2 million and Orlando on 1.6 million. Analysis of OAG data reveals that Frontier will compete directly with Delta on all nine new routes.
Earlier this month, the airline announced the launch of a further 14 new routes set to begin this spring, include three from Washington Dulles International Airport and three from Miami International Airport.
