USCG to establish safety zone on the Ohio River
TIN news: The U.S. Coast Guard will be establishing a safety zone on the Ohio River in support of a multi-agency law enforcement training exercise scheduled for Tuesday.
The safety zone will be in effect from approximately 8 a.m., to 2 p.m., and will extend the entire width of the river from mile marker 470.0 near the Cincinnati Public Landing to mile marker 471.5 downriver of the Brent Spence Highway, I-75, Bridge.
No vessel shall enter into, depart from, or move within the safety zone unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port Ohio Valley or a designated representative.
Federal, state and, local law enforcement and emergency response agencies will be conducting an on-water training exercise as part of on-going tactical law enforcement and emergency response training. The training exercise will result in an increased presence of law enforcement and emergency response vessels on the Ohio River in the downtown Cincinnati area. BB Riverboats Inc, located in Newport, Kentucky, will be the staging area for the training exercise.
The public is cautioned that this event is not in response to any specific threat, but is a regularly scheduled Department of Homeland Security Area Maritime Security exercise. This training exercise was developed to enhance the training and readiness capabilities of federal, state, local and commercial security personnel to respond to potential threats to the maritime transportation system.
In the event of an emergency the Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley Command Center can be reached on VHF channel 16 or at (800) 253-7465.
