Philippines Government unveils development plans for six major airports

 
TIN news:       The Philippines Department of Transportation and Communication (DoTC) has released plans for the development of six major airports to boost the country's tourism.
 
The development plan was revealed by division chief of the Air Transport Planning Staff Department of the DoTC Rafael Lavides during the hearing of the Congressional Oversight Committee on Tourism in the Senate.
 
According to the plans, The Business World reported that PHP26.1bn ($59m) will be invested for developing the Puerto Princesa International Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Bacolod-Silay International Airport, Davao International Airport, Laguindingan International Airport and the New Bohol Airport.
 
An initial amount of PHP5.8bn ($13m) will be used for the construction of new facilities, which includes the development of its 2,600m x 45m runway and the expansion of the passenger terminal building to be completed in 2017 at Puerto Princesa International Airport.
"The DoTC is planning to submit these plans to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Investment Coordination Committee in the second quarter of this year."
 
Another PHP4bn will be used for the Phase 1 development of the Iloilo International Airport, which is considered to be the country's fifth busiest airport. This project will include the expansion of the 13,700m² passenger terminal building to approximately five times its original size.
 
Roughly PHP3.6bn will be invested in the development and expansion of the runway and passenger terminal building of the Bacolod-Silay International Airport. Davao International Airport, Laguindingan International Airport and the New Bohol (Panglao) Airport will receive PHP5.8 bn, PHP2.2bn and PHP4.5bn, respectively.
 
An amount totalling PHP6bn will also be given to Tuguegarao Airport, Roxas Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Bacolod International Airport, Surigao Airport, Butuan Airport, Ozamis Airport, Zamboanga International Airport, General Santos International Airport and Sanga-Sanga airports.
 
The DoTC is planning to submit these plans to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Investment Coordination Committee in the second quarter of this year, reports The Business World.
