Seattle Tacoma Airport to enhance Wi - Fi connectivity

|
TIN news:        The Seattle Tacoma International Airport is implementing a Wi-Fi enhancement programme worth $9.8m that will replace its ten-year-old AT&T Wireless Distributed Antennae System.

The airport will be upgrading its current internet connection with two high-performance Wi-Fi access points in the gate areas.

These upgrades are aimed at increasing the number of people who can use the network while waiting for their flights.

The airport's main apron will also get a Wi-Fi network. Airline ground operations personnel and airport staff will be able to use the internet with the addition of three access points within close proximity to parked aircraft.
"The airport will be upgrading its current internet connection with two high-performance Wi-Fi access points in the gate areas."

Once the project is completed, users will be able to get enhanced connectivity throughout Concourses C and D, the south satellite, GML Hall, central terminal, ticketing and security checkpoints, the ramp's passenger loading bridges, and baggage make-up areas.

GeekWire quoted Sea-Tac airport chief aviation technologist Dave Wilson as saying: "The Port of Seattle is working to keep pace with passenger mobility.

"In the Seattle area, with Microsoft, Amazon, and other tech companies, our passengers demand we have a robust WiFi. Our design will support the latest in mobile devices."

Speaking about its need for the enhancement in its Wi-Fi systems, the airport had written in a memorandum last year: "Current demand for Wi-Fi access results in poor performance, loss of connection, or no connection at all. It is anticipated that an enhanced Wi-Fi system as currently envisioned will provide adequate capacity for the foreseeable future."

The airport is aiming to complete the project by July 2016
