France detains two ships for breaching ECA regulations

French authorities detained two vessels in Le Havre at end of December 2018, as they have breached ECA regulations by exceeding the sulphur cap of 0.1%.
French authorities detained two vessels in Le Havre at end of December 2018, as they have breached ECA regulations by exceeding the sulphur cap of 0.1%.
According to Leïla Esnard, Avocate au Barreau de Paris, one of the vessels was a chemical tanker which was carrying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. This ship's sulphur level was measured at 0,23%.
The other was a container ship flying the flag of Singapore. This vessels's sulphur level was measured at 0,16%. The ship interests had to pay a fine of Euros 80,000 to be authorised to sail.
The criminal court of Le Havre will now examine these cases.
