Iran – Russia transportation deal effects the region

Iran and Russia transportation agreement in roads, maritime, air and railway would effect the region and International North–South Transport Corridor ,said  the head of commercialization department at the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development. 

Amin Trafo discussed the achievements of 10th Iran-Russia joint transportation working group meeting in an interview with Trend. 

"The recent meeting between Iran and Russia was about five topics, the negotiations included air, sea, road, rail connection and mixed transportation of the International North–South Transport Corridor.", he said. 

"The negotiations over mixed transportation in the International North–South Transport Corridor were constructive. The formation of joint unions in the region has been discussed in the meeting.", he added. 

"We have railway and road facilities in east of the Caspian Sea, the rail is being constructed in western Caspian Sea and the road is currently functioning." , he noted. 

"The new bilateral unions based on Iran and Russia will be formed in the region, while there was agreement for new transit channel via Iran to access Russia to eastern and western neighbors like Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.", he said. 

"Incheboron in east of the Caspian Sea would be connected to Russia.", he added. 

" Rasht-Astara railway is currently improving by the cooperation of Azerbaijan and is in contract stage." , he said referring to latest situation of the railway. 

"It has been agreed that Russia would cooperate in Imam Khomeini airport development. Launch of rail in private ports of two countries have also been signed in terms of maritime transportation. There have been new discount in tariffs that are significant.", he indicated. 

"The significant tariff reduction has been determined for containers and businessmen can transport via sea with cheaper costs between Iran and Russia.", he said. 

"The railway agreement related to operating Garmsar_Incheboron electrifying project that expected to start in next two months.", he said. 

"The project related studies have been completed even their contracts have been signed and project should being install. Iran would be the operator of the railway project and on the other side Russia is the responsible.", he added. 

"For road connection and imposing taxes and tariffs we would operate and expand the Russian Global Navigation Satellite ( Glonass)." , he noted.
