Crane collapse causes death of 5 at SHI shipyard

Five people were killed and 20 others were injured following the collapse of a crane onto a ship, during construction operations, at a Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard, in Geoje.

Specifically, on Monday noon, 1st of May, a collision of two cranes was reported, which then caused the collapse of a 32-ton part of a crane. The police officially confirmed five people dead, six seriously injured and 14 with minor injuries, according to yonhap news.

Rescue operations are underway for workers that may have been buried. The police also commenced an investigation, in order to determine the exact number of victims as well as the cause of the incident. 

A company official said that this is the most serious accident that has ever happened in SHI shipyards.
