The Britannia P&I Club has released the second part of its  ‘Health Watch’ publication focusing this time on mental health issues, weight and body mass index (BMI), diet and exercise, back pain and malaria. The Club says that daily changes in lifestyle such as adopting a balanced and healthy diet and exercise can have a positive impact on crew members’ health and suggests to adopt small changes in daily routine life as soon as possible. 

The Club says that even with these small changes you will quickly feel the benefits and the working environment will seem easier. 

“There are many ways to enjoy a more varied and healthy diet, even within the confines of a ship’s galley, and there is a growing awareness that the food we eat has a direct link to our health and wellbeing.” the Club notes and refers on how to calculate the ideal body weight and what to include in the diet to avoid obesity. 

Also, exercise is important,  not only for keeping fit and preventing

health problems, but also in helping to stay mentally healthy and avoiding fatigue.
