Maersk ship goes adrift due to engine fire

A Maersk-operated container ship went adrift off Aleutian Islands, Alaska, on Friday night, after she reportedly suffered fire in the engine room.

According to USCG, the 872-foot long Laura Maersk, was carrying oil and petroleum products, when the engine room caught fire, causing it lose power and remain adrift, 7 mile north of Akutan Island.

On Saturday morning, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation announced that the vessel was escorted to land safe. None of the crew members on board Laura was injured.

The US Coast Guard has initiated investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
