Pirates attack ship off Gulf of Guinea, 5 crew kidnapped
The General cargo vessel OYA1 was reported to have been under attack by pirates on July, around 15nm off Bonny Island, Nigeria, Gulf of Guinea. The IMB Piracy Reporting Center confirmed the attacked and informed that ‘some crew members were missing’.
IMB said that armed pirates boarded a general cargo ship underway. The incident was reported to the Nigerian navy who responded and located the ship. The Nigerian navy vessel towed the ship to a safe port for investigation.
The ship sailed from Takoradi Ghana on July 27, port of destination unknown, probably Douala Cameroon. Five crew members are reported to have been kidnapped by the pirates, two Moroccan officers and three other crewmembers, according to Moroccan media.
