Paragon still working on drillship removal from Corpus Christi

Despite refloating efforts, Houston-based Paragon Offshore’s drillship “Paragon DPDS I” remains grounded at the Port of Corpus Christi, Texas, blocking no deep-draft vessels from moving in the ship channel, the US Coast Guard informed.

The 450-foot vessel was reportedly dislodged from its moorings, as a result of Harvey Hurricane.

The ship grounded on the northern side of the channel near the entrance to the port, after being accidentally drifted. Despite refloating on Monday evening, the vessel drifted across the channel the southern side of the channel, where it ran aground again, Paragon Offshore explained.

The company said that the rig has been lighted, to prevent collisions with other vessels. Paragon has also deployed a ship to monitor the rig.

Paragon also conducted a survey of the vessel’s condition on August 29, in order to present a removal plan to the US Coast Guard.

However, in its latest update, the Port of Corpus Christi Authority says that the Corpus Christi and La Quinta Ship Channels is not obstructed by the incident.
