The Panama Canal celebrated a new milestone as three LNG ships transited the neopanamax locks last Tuesday 17 of April. This is the first time that such a milestone happens on the interoceanic highway in the same day.

Namely, the Clean Ocean, the Gaslog Gibraltar and the Gaslog Hong Kong transited the Canal, coming from the Pacific Ocean, heading north towards the Atlantic Ocean.

This transit marks a significant milestone for the Panama Canal, which began using the interoceanic route for the first time after the Canal expanded on June 26, 2016.

The Panama Canal reports an average of five transits per week. However, during periods of high seasonal demand, two transits in a day have happened on 14 occasions.

With respect to this fiscal year, since March 2018, the Panama Canal has recorded a total of 134 LNG transits.
