Worker dies as crane catches fire at Port of Haldia, Kolkata
One worker lost his life on April 27, after jumping off a harbor crane that was on fire at the Port of Haldia, in Kolkata. Due to the fall, he sustained serious injuries, and died at the hospital. Operations at the berth are currently shut, while an investigation into the incident has started.

The crane's operator was using a large mobile harbor crane to unload coal from a bulker at Haldia's Berth 13. During the operation, fire started on the crane.
Trying to escape it, the worker jumped from the top of the crane's counterweights onto the dock. According to information, some of his coworkers tried to catch him, but without success. The man had fallen from a height of about 50 feet.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. However, as local media reported, eyewitnesses mentioned that the fire started during refueling of the crane. Operations at the berth are now shut, as an investigation has started.
