LA Metro extends fare suspension as fires continue

Fare payment on public transport services in Los Angeles remains suspended as the wildfires which have caused so much destruction in the Californian city continue to burn.

Janice Hahn, LA County supervisor and chair of the LA Metro board of directors, posted on X: "Given the threat that the fires and severe winds continue to pose to our region, I’ve authorized @metrolosangeles to continue free fares systemwide while these conditions exist."

As many as 100,000 people have been displaced by the fires, either because their homes have been destroyed or because they are in evacuation zones.

All rail lines are running a regular service, LA Metro says. "However, there are impacts to a few bus lines due to the wildfires in our region."

The fires have destroyed much of the Pacific Palisades area of the city, and bus lines 134 and 602 are cancelled as a result.

On lines 660 and 662, there is no service north of Washington in the Pasadena and Altadena areas due to wildfires.

Strong winds, which could cause the fires to grow, are forecast.
