Thai high-speed project clears environmental assessment

THAILAND’s National Environment Board (NEB) has approved the first phase of the Bangkok - Chiang Mai high-speed line, after an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
The board did, however, express concern over the possible environmental impact on Bueng Boraphet, a freshwater swamp and lake in Nakhwon Sawan province, which the line will cross. The board recommended monitoring and putting measures in place to limit the impact on the area.
A Chinese enterprise will supervise the construction of the Thai-Chinese high-speed project, including the design of the infrastructure and electrical systems.
