Masovian Railways to order 71 EMUs from Stadler
POLISH regional operator Masovian Railways (KM) confirmed on October 11 that Stadler Poland has been selected as preferred bidder for a contract to supply 71 EMUs.
Stadler’s bid, which was based on the company’s Flirt 3 EMU, achieved the highest ranking in the tender evaluation with a score of 99 points, ahead of a consortium of Pesa and ZNTK Mińsk Mazowiecki (88 points) and Newag (79 points). Stadler also submitted the lowest-priced offer with a bid of Zlotys 2.21bn ($US 610m).
The fleet will be supplied in three batches. Six five-car trains will be delivered by the end of 2018 and KM expects to receive 10 two-car trains in 2019. The remaining 55 five-car sets will be delivered between 2019 and 2022.
The delivery of new rolling stock will enable KM to withdraw all of its remaining unrefurbished class EN57 EMUs.
