FRENCH National Railways (SNCF) has placed an order with Bombardier Transportation for 36 Francilien trains (270 cars) on behalf of Ile-De-France Mobility.
The order, an option from a contract signed in 2006 with SNCF for a maximum of 372 trains, is valued at approximately €261m. The trains are entirely financed by Ile-De-France Mobility and will be rolled out on lines L, J and P on the SNCF Transilien network. Bombardier says it will support Ile-De-France Mobility’s rolling stock renewal programme by accelerating its production pace from September 2019 onwards.
The new trains will feature upgrades to improve the comfort of passengers including USB ports, new and more ergonomic handrails, large panoramic screens to increase readability of passenger information, and improved reliability.
The Francilien has room for up to 1000 passengers and includes large seats, wide doors and open gangways to improve passenger flow. In addition, they are equipped with the latest energy-efficient and “intelligent” technologies as well as improved security systems.
The new order consists of 18 short trains, totalling 126 cars, to operate on lines L and J to and from Paris Saint-Lazare station as well as 18 long trains, totalling 144 cars, for Line P from Paris Est station. Along with the 230 Francilien trains already in operation, SNCF will operate a fleet of 313 Francilien commuter trains.
