Istanbul launches 24-hour public transport

THE mayor of Istanbul, Mr Ekrem Imamoğlu, announced on August 29 that the city will launch 24-hour services on selected metro and bus lines from the night of August 30.

THE mayor of Istanbul, Mr Ekrem Imamoğlu, announced on August 29 that the city will launch 24-hour services on selected metro and bus lines from the night of August 30.

24-hour services will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and religious and public holidays on eight bus routes and six metro lines:

  • M1A Yenikapi -Atatürk Airport
  • M1B Yenikapi -Kirazlı
  • M2 Yenikapi -Haciosman
  • M4 Kadiköy – Tavşantepe
  • M5 Üsküdar – Çekmeköy, and
  • M6 Levent – Boğaziçi University/Hisarüstü

Metro services will operate at 20-minute headways and fares will be charged at double the standard daytime rate.

“This city lives 24 hours a day,” Imamoğlu says. “We know well that there are many people who work late at night. We also know how hectic the city gets during night time.”
