Hitachi Rail to Provide Communication Systems for Etihad Rail

Under this contract, Hitachi Rail will deliver advanced communication, supervision, and cybersecurity solutions for the stations, integrated with the existing freight infrastructure.
Hitachi Rail’s digital platform, leveraging AI technology, will improve station management and passenger safety, enhancing the overall travel experience.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has also been signed between Hitachi Rail and Etihad Rail to develop future digital solutions, reinforcing their collaborative efforts in the region.
Benoît Couture, Vice-President of Integrated Communication and Supervision Solutions (ICS) at Hitachi Rail, said:
“Our digital expertise will enable us to integrate all key telecom and supervision technologies into one existing platform for the Etihad Rail Passenger Stations project, a transformative initiative for the UAE. Our advanced telecom systems will enhance safety and efficiency, helping to connect all Emirates and supporting sustainable transport goals.”
Etihad Rail will significantly reduce commute times between the UAE’s emirates and key cities, contributing to the country’s Net Zero 2050 initiative.
Once operational, the network is expected to transport up to 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030.

In addition to telecommunications, Hitachi Rail will introduce a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) solution for the 900 km Etihad Rail network, allowing passengers to manage bookings, payments, and journeys through a single digital platform.
