The locomotives, which have been specifically customised for MOB, aim to enhance performance and safety on the operator’s service.
Out of the six locomotives, four electric units will be deployed for passenger services on the Goldenpass Express.
These four-axle locomotives will be equipped with advanced technology and will have an output of 3 MW, providing the necessary tractive power for challenging routes, including the Meterpur stretch. They will be capable of reaching a top speed of 100 km/h.
Georges Oberson, CEO of the Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway Company said:
“The arrival of these modern, innovative locomotives will secure the long-term future of the Goldenpass Express, one of the most beautiful trains in the world. This opens up new horizons for us to satisfy an increasingly numerous and demanding clientèle.”
The remaining two locomotives will be hybrid models, intended for rail service and infrastructure maintenance. Their hybrid drives will enable them to operate without overhead contact lines.
All six locomotives will replace older vehicles. They have been purchased as part of a joint tender with Transports de la Région Morges-Bière-Cossonay (MBC).
Christian König, Deputy Head of Sales & Marketing at Stadler said:
“We are proud to have been awarded this contract by MOB. Our metre-gauge locomotives specially developed for MOB will continue to successfully pull the Goldenpass Express premium train built by Stadler, whilst allowing old rail service locomotives to be replaced. We are convinced that the new innovative, tailored-made vehicles will meet MOB’s requirements. We would like to thank MOB for their trust.”
