AECOM Appointed for East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project
AECOM has been selected as the lead designer for the final design phase of the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project.

AECOM has been selected as the lead designer for the final design phase of the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project.
The company will work under the San Fernando Transit Constructors (SFTC) joint venture team to advance Phase 2 of the project for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).
The scheme includes at-grade light rail tracks and 11 stations over a 6.7-mile route, with the aim of improving transport connectivity and reliability in the San Fernando Valley region.
Matt Crane, chief executive of AECOM’s U.S. West region said:
We are proud to support this landmark project, which will meet growing demands for public transit in the region.
For over a decade, our transportation experts have played a critical role in delivering Southern California’s ambitious transit objectives. That experience prepares our teams to provide innovative engineering solutions that boost connectivity and improve the quality of life for the communities we serve.
AECOM’s role as lead designer includes design integration for multiple project elements, with all components being developed using Building Information Modelling (BIM). This approach is intended to increase design efficiency, facilitate clash detection, and enhance constructability analysis. The BIM methodology will be managed by AECOM’s digital delivery team to support decision-making throughout the design process.
Upon completion, the light rail line will integrate with existing and planned transit services, including Metrolink, Amtrak, Metro G Line, and Metro B Line.
We are excited to partner with San Fernando Transit Constructors and Metro on this important project to provide new transportation options for communities across the San Fernando Valley. As the industry’s top rail and mass transit firm, our teams have delivered some of the world’s most ambitious urban mobility projects, and we look forward to deploying that global experience to enhance one of the Valley’s busiest travel corridors.
In addition to the rail infrastructure, Phase 2 will incorporate street improvements aimed at enhancing accessibility and safety. A new 22-acre maintenance and storage facility is also planned, with several buildings designed to feature solar power generation and storage capabilities.
Metro’s East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project, with an estimated budget of 3.57 billion USD, is intended to enhance local and regional connectivity. The line will run along Van Nuys Boulevard, a key transport corridor, and serve communities in Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta, and Pacoima. These areas have a significant number of residents who rely on public transport. The project is expected to be completed by 2031.
