Mastering the Skills of Aware and Responsible Driving and Passenger Behavior Ensures Safe Nowruz Journeys
The RMTO Deputy for Road Maintenance stressed that acquiring the techniques of being an aware and responsible driver and passenger is critical for enhancing road safety during Nowruz trips. These skills play a vital role in reducing accidents and casualties.

According to Mehran Ghorbani: "While the responsibility for building and maintaining safer roads and vehicles lies with the relevant authorities, drivers hold the key to mitigating potential risks. By remaining vigilant, choosing safe speeds and maintaining focus, drivers can safeguard their own lives and those of their families during road trips."
Dr. Qorbani also highlighted the "No to Accidents" Nowruz campaign, which operates under the central slogan "Let's Drive Safely." He underscored the importance of two fundamental skills—"being a safe driver" and "being an aware passenger"—as essential tools for protecting road users and reducing accidents during the 1404 Nowruz holiday period.
Addressing Driver Distraction and Passenger Responsibilities
The Road Maintenance Deputy identified unintentional mental lapses and driver distraction as leading causes of road accidents. He also noted that many passengers inadvertently contribute to unsafe driving by either distracting the driver or failing to intervene in risky behaviors.
Qorbani outlined the techniques for becoming a "fully attentive driver", stressing the importance of:
• Maintaining complete focus on the journey, supported by deep breathing to promote mental calmness.
• Keeping the senses sharp and being fully aware of road status and the surrounding environment.
• Avoiding fatigue and drowsiness by taking timely breaks.
He further stressed the need to avoid distractions, remain patient and follow traffic laws. He urged drivers to approach travel with kindness, avoid judging others' behavior, and prioritize safety by respecting the rights of pedestrians and other drivers.
The Role of Passengers in Ensuring Safety
Elaborating on the qualities of an "aware and responsible" passenger, Mr. Qorbani highlighted the following key practices:
• Refusing to travel with a driver exhibiting erratic behavior or physical impairments.
• Avoiding actions that distract the driver or encourage risky behavior.
• Encouraging safe driving through polite and intelligent reminders.
• Speaking up against dangerous driving behaviors while maintaining respect and composure.
He described passengers as pivotal in fostering safe driving habits and ensuring the overall safety of road trips. Their role, he added, extends beyond passive observation to active engagement in promoting responsible driving.
Building a Culture of Conscious Driving
Qorbani concluded by stressing the importance of developing and embedding the principles of "aware and responsible driving and passenger behavior" within families during Nowruz trips. He described this approach as a transformative step toward establishing a nationwide culture of safe and responsible road behavior, which could significantly reduce traffic accidents and fatalities in Iran.
