Maintenance and Development of Over 20,000 Kilometers of Arterial Roads in the Past Iranian Year
The Director General for the Department of Road Maintenance and Technical Construction at the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization announced the execution of maintenance and development projects covering 20,154 kilometers of the national arterial roads in the past Iranian Year. These efforts were aimed at enhancing road safety and ensuring an optimal level of service.

According to Hassan Jahanian, asphalt improvement and coating, asphalt sand applications, as well as cold and hot recycling operations were carried out on 7,106 kilometers of freeways, highways, main and arterial roads, utilizing 6,607,382 tons of asphalt.
He further highlighted that road surface protection measures, including fog seal, chip seal, slurry seal, cold asphalt and micro surfacing, were implemented on 3,736 kilometers of the road network.
Additionally, Mr. Jahanian reported the application of 3,140 kilometers of sealing operations and 6,171 kilometers of spotting operations across the arterial roads, which consumed 2,164,593 tons of asphalt during the year.
In the field of maintenance, reconstruction, and major repairs of technical road structures, significant progress was made. Mr. Jahanian also noted the construction of 145 new bridges and the reconstruction or major repair of 2,645 technical structures.
He also outlined other critical projects undertaken in the last Iranian Year, which included the dredging, diversion and bed adjustment of 11,450 culverts and bridges, the repair and reinforcement of 21,441 meters of tunnels, the construction of eight overpasses, tunnels and bridges, as well as the construction of 69 kilometers of retaining walls.
