According to Mehdi Khezri, the Rimdan Border has been operational since 2019. He stated that during last year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage, 33700 Pakistani pilgrims entered Iran via 559 buses from Pakistan, where they were accommodated by Iranian service stations and continued their journey smoothly.
Mr. Khezri also stressed the importance of new facilities, noting that 17 roadside service complexes along the 720-kilometer corridor in the southern region of Sistan and Baluchestan Province have significantly contributed to improving services and facilitating the movement of Pakistani pilgrims into Iran.
The Transport Deputy further outlined key improvements at the Rimdan border, including:
Asphalt paving and cleaning of 350 kilometers of roads leading to the border.
Expansion of shaded areas to 7,000 square meters.
Construction of a passport control hall.
Installation of 110 restroom units and two mosques.
Erection of lighting towers, landscaping, fencing and additional amenities to enhance the border area's functionality and ease the pilgrims' movements.
Mr. Khezri also underscored the borders potential for cargo transit, stating: “While the border's primary activity currently revolves around facilitating pilgrim movements, infrastructure is being prepared to support goods transit. In the near future, the border will be capable of handling transit cargo.”
He concluded by noting that the border's development plan is currently in the design phase, with construction scheduled to commence later this year after the conclusion of Arbaeen pilgrimage operations.
