Vodafone India and Videocon Wallcam launch industry’s first 4G-enabled CCTV system

The Indian subsidiary of telecommunications giant Vodafone has partnered with security and video surveillance equipment developer Videocon Wallcam to launch the first-of-its-kind 4G-enabled CCTV system.

Among the systems rolled out by the Vodafone – Videocon partnerships are a 4G-enabled vehicle surveillance kit, and standalone 4G-enabled outdoor/indoor CCTV cameras, both with a 4G sim card slot to support fourth-generation cellular broadband connectivity.

The mobile vehicle camera kit, consisting of vibration resistant-, shock- and vandal-proof 2MP resolution CCTV cameras and vibration resistant DVR (digital video recorder), can be installed in buses, trucks, trains, taxi cabs or private cars. The DVR comes equipped with 4G/3G connectivity, GPS (global positioning system), wi-fi, and the option of recording the footage on a hard-drive and/or SD card. Available in 4/8-channel options, the DVR can accommodate up to 4/8 CCTV cameras as required.

The standalone 4G cameras available in 2MP resolution will be both 4G and wi-fi enabled, and the cameras will also support onboard SD memory of up to 64GB. The cameras will be available in weatherproof, all-metal bullet housings for outdoor use, and a plastic dome housing for indoor use. Included in the key features of both indoor and outdoor camera systems will be nightview, motion detection, wi-fi connectivity, and an alarm function.

Bundled with Vodafone 4G cellular technology, the systems will provide seamless connectivity to users for remote viewing of real-time/live footage and playback from recorded footage, from anywhere and anytime, through a smartphone application or internet-based (IP) monitoring system application. The system also works on 3G connectivity as a fall back.

“4G connectivity will make CCTV solutions ubiquitous and will change the way this solution will be used. CCTV cameras will no longer be limited to stationary and wi-fi/broadband-enabled places. Now CCTV solutions can be installed in mobile units, such as buses, trains, trucks, tubes, cars/cabs, and public places like bus shelters, streets etc. where there is no wi-fi/broadband connectivity.”
