The new research conducted by Real Russia, analysed which countries offered the most features of interest for fans of the written word, by examining factors including number of libraries, literature tourism – including landmarks and events, notable writers from each country, and the number of books published in each country every year.

The researchers examined the literary stats for every country around the world, and narrowed the final results down to the top 30 countries which offered the most for book lovers.
Coming out in the stop spot as the best country for lit fans is the USA. The country took the number one spot thanks to its astonishing number of books published per annum, plus a thriving literature tourism scene – with landmarks including The Bridges of Madison County and Shakespeare’s garden, while notable festivals include BookCon, BookExpo America and Fyre Festivals. The USA is also home to hundreds of incredible libraries including the famous New York Public Library.
