Toronto selects Iteris iPeMS to enable smarter transportation

TIN news:  Toronto has selected Iteris iPeMS technology for managing and measuring the performance of the Canadian city's intelligent transportation systems and enhancing traffic flow, as well as safety.

Iteris is a US-based company that offers applied informatics for the transportation sector.

The technology of Iteris iPeMS combines real-time and historical data offered by HERE, a global mapping and location services provider to help the city of Toronto in improving its transportation network.

City of Toronto Transportation Services general manager Barbara Gray said: “The smart use of advanced technology is the cornerstone of our 2016-2020 congestion management plan.

“Getting real-time, intelligent transportation system data analysis, visualisation and reporting from Iteris will help us to improve traffic congestion and safety in our city.”

By using this new technology, city authorities will be able to analyse and visualise real-time and historical traffic, as well as assess the impacts of changing the weather, construction work and infrastructure on roadway mobility and safety.

Iteris Transportation Systems general manager and senior vice-president Ramin Massoumi said: “The city of Toronto is taking a proactive and innovative approach to intelligent transportation systems management. 

“It is our privilege and honour to deliver our Cloud-based transportation performance management system in the service of Canada’s most populous city.”

Currently, Iteris iPeMS is used by the Virginia Department of Transportation and California Department of Transportation to manage, measure and optimise complex transportation networks
