Construction works have been started by Scotland Minister for Transport and the Islands Humza Yousaf on the new Darly bypass project that will be built to the east of the North Ayrshire town.

Transport Scotland selected contractor Farrans Roadbridge JV in May this year to construct the bypass road in the region.

The project includes construction of a 4km bypass, with two new roundabouts at Hillend and Highfield, and a viaduct to continue the new stretch over the River Garnock and the Glasgow to Ayr railway line.

The construction team will also be responsible for connecting the new bypass to the existing A737 Trunk Road east of Highfield.

Yousaf said: "Delivery of the scheme will help strengthen the economy for the local communities by providing improved journey times, as well reducing the demand placed upon the current road by long-distance road users.

"The Scottish Government is committed to having a safer and more efficient transport network and the start of work today is another step forward to delivering this for the people of Scotland.”

Construction of Darly bypass is expected to complete by the end of 2019.

Upon completion of the project, the new bypass will facilitate improved economic and employment opportunities through better journey time for motorists and businesses along the length of the A737.

The Dalry Bypass will also help in segregating local and strategic traffic, and boost safety for both rural road users and communities.
