PORR has secured a £45m contract from Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Krajowych i Autostrad (GDDKiA) for the design and construction of the dual-level Lubelska traffic hub in central Poland.

GDDKiA has been set up by the Polish Ministry of Transportation to manage the national roads.

Under the contract, PORR will build Lubelska dual-level traffic hub at the junction of the existing DK 17 carriageway to link Warsaw’s newly planned south bypass (S2) with the east bypass (S17) and A2 motorway.

Construction works will begin in November next year and are expected to complete in September 2020.

The new traffic hub will help in preventing collisions as there would be no overlapping of lanes and the turn-offs will enable smooth entry and exit of traffic flows.

In addition, PORR will provide water/wastewater works, telecommunications and elements of the electronics infrastructure facilities.

"The Lubelska traffic hub is a crucial project for the road network around Warsaw."

PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss said: "This tender underlines the expertise of PORR SA in Polish road construction.

“The Lubelska traffic hub is a crucial project for the road network around Warsaw. There is a very tight schedule in terms of timing and stringent demands in terms of the quality of execution. That’s why we see the fact that the project was awarded to our Polish team as a strong vote of confidence.”

Once complete, the S2 expressway will link the Konotopa traffic hub, west of Warsaw, and Warszawa-Lubelska to the A2 motorway.

Polish transport authorities expect that the completed sections of the S2 will provide a significant improvement to the development of road infrastructure surrounding the nation's capital. The contract was awarded last week.
