City of Marietta to launch new Marietta TravelSafely app
The City of Marietta in Georgia, US has initiated the testing phase to deploy the new ‘Smart City’ Marietta TravelSafely app.
Designed and developed to save lives by reducing first responder response time and making drivers, cyclists and pedestrians more visible to each other, the Marietta TravelSafely app will soon be available on Apple and Android smart devices.
The app has been integrated with first responders, school beacons, and driver feedback signs.
The app is set to be deployed at 120 traffic signals in the city and all anonymous smartphones using it in a connected network.
As a result of the connected network, first responders in Marietta automatically will be given green lights at pre-cleared intersections in order to provide a safer route and shorten response times.
The app will also alert the drivers along the route of the first responder vehicle’s approach and direction of travel.
Marietta City Manager Bill Bruton said: “This will be an invaluable tool available to not only our citizens, but every person who enters into the City of Marietta.
“This free app will provide an additional layer of communication which will help better keep our citizens informed and aware of their surroundings.
“Our goal is to improve the safety of drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians while addressing traffic concerns of our citizens.”
The app users will be automatically alerted if they are within or approaching a school zone, or if their vehicle is exceeding speed limits
