Highways England (HE) has announced plans for its preferred routes to renovate three parts of the 115-mile stretch of the A47 between Peterborough and Great Yarmouth, in addition to improving several junctions and roundabouts.

The latest plans for the £300m work follow six public consultations that were held between 13 March and 21 April this year.

The six projects are part of the government’s £15bn investment in England’s motorways and major A roads.

Highways England Programme Leader for the A47 Philip Davie said: “Delivery of these projects will improve users journey times and safety, so this work is a priority for Highways England.

"Delivery of these projects will improve users journey times and safety, so this work is a priority for Highways England."

“We have listened to the publics’ views and these have helped shape and inform our approach to our proposed schemes.

"Work now continues, adding detail to the design for each of the dualling and junction improvements, and on planning how we will deliver them in a way that keeps traffic moving.”

Works around Norwich will involve the dualling of the A47 between North Tuddenham and Easton, as well as further east, between Blofield and North Burlingham.

Junction improvements will be carried out at the Thickthorn Interchange with the A11 plus two busy junctions in Great Yarmouth.

Works to be conducted at Peterborough will include dualling a busy stretch between Wansford (A1) and Sutton, and improving the Guyhirn junction with the A141.

According to HE, works on the six projects is expected to begin as early as March 2020, with completion dates starting from March 2021.
