Queensland announces new project works in Sunshine Coast
Australia's Queensland Government has announced plans for new project works set to be carried out in Sunshine Coast.
The A$19m ($15m) works are expected to begin later this month with the construction of a temporary side road on Nicklin Way as works progress on required key infrastructure to service the development.
As part of the project, new bridge crossings will be constructed on Nicklin Way with a pedestrian and cycle path underneath, and the Lake Kawana will be extended into the Bokarina Beach site.
Situated on Nicklin Way, the Bokarina Beach development is bordered by Beach Drive and Wurley Drive.
The intersection of the Nicklin Way and Lake Kawana Boulevard will also be upgraded to accommodate the new access to the development site.
Works will also include an additional southbound lane through the intersection in order to accommodate more traffic capacity.
Construction will also include a new northbound dedicated bus lane, an additional right-turn lane into Lake Kawana Boulevard, dedicated bicycle lanes and an upgraded pedestrian crossing on Nicklin Way.
Queensland Main Roads and Road Safety acting minister Steven Miles said: “Works will increase the capacity of the surrounding road network to keep infrastructure in step with the development.
“Benefits for the wider community will include significantly improved traffic flow, pedestrian and cycle routes, and connections to the Oceanside community.
“Capacity upgrades will streamline access to the new community, as well as offset projected traffic increases to maintain connectivity both locally and to key areas of the Sunshine Coast.”
The project will be fully funded by Stockland and focus on enhancing the existing Nicklin Way/Lake Kawana Boulevard intersection with a new road, along with additional capacity upgrades.
The works are expected to be completed by the end of next year.
