Odessa Resolution calls on governments to go digital
Delegates at the 18th International Road Transport Conference in Odessa have unanimously adopted a resolution calling on governments across the region to accede to the electronic consignment note (e-CMR) and to begin using TIR’s digital capabilities.
The resolution highlights changes in transport and logistics sectors and puts the spotlight on digitalisation, which is essential to countries keen to grow their markets and exploit new intermodal transport corridors.
Endorsed by industry leaders gathered in Odessa last week, the focus is on the digital tools already available to upgrade transport operations and streamline international trade.
Opening the conference, IRU Secretary General, Umberto de Pretto, said,
“The Odessa resolution is a significant marker on the map of the future for transport. This region has always been at the forefront of innovation, and in particular, we welcome Ukraine’s enthusiasm for participating in the forthcoming digital transport operation along an intermodal corridor, which will drive progress even further.”
The Conference is an increasingly powerful platform to push high level messages on sustainable mobility and to forge the way ahead for road transport. The programme covered key issues, including intermodal transport links between Europe and Asia, the harmonisation of transport policies, digitalisation of transport operations for cross-border transit and investment in professional training.
Held jointly by IRU and the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine (AsMAP UA), the event hosted over 330 industry leaders and policy makers from 13 countries.
