IRU Brexit Task Force seeks clarity on transport
IRU’s Brexit Task Force, bringing together IRU’s expertise with the practical experience of member associations, met today to work on providing solutions to the many challenges faced by the road transport industry as a result of the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union.
The discussions focused on how to maintain freedom of movement of goods between the EU and United Kingdom after the United Kingdom leaves the European Union.
Participants examined a number of trade facilitation options to be presented to decision makers to assist them in their efforts to reach mutually acceptable, business friendly customs procedures.
Clarity for business is essential to strategic commercial planning. Failure to address these issues will result in chaos at borders and add significant time and costs to international transport between the United Kingdom and the EU.
With today’s logistics chains spanning international borders, restrictions or barriers will inevitably threaten jobs and growth. IRU continues to urge both the UK Government and European Union to reach agreements on these vital trade, customs and transport issues.
