Volvo to launch new gas trucks to cut CO2 emissions
Volvo Trucks is all set to roll-out its new Volvo FH LNG and Volvo FM LNG trucks that are capable of slashing CO2 emissions by 20%-100%.
The company noted that its Euro 6-compliant gas-powered trucks are fuel efficient as well as deliver performance that is on par with the diesel-powered trucks.
Both the trucks are equipped with engines that can run on either biogas, which can fully eliminate CO2, or natural gas that cuts CO2 emissions by 20% compared with diesel vehicles.
In order to enhance the efficiency, the new trucks run on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Volvo Trucks engines product manager Mats Franzén said: "Our new trucks running on liquefied natural gas or biogas produce a far smaller climate footprint than diesel trucks do.
"According to the company, a truck operator covering 120,000km a year can cut CO2 emissions by 18t-20t by using natural gas instead of diesel."
“In addition, they are much more fuel-efficient than the gas-powered trucks available on the market today. This makes gas more viable as a replacement for diesel even for heavy long-haul operations."

Volvo Trucks environment and innovation director Lars Mårtensson said: "We regard LNG as a long-term first choice alternative to diesel, both for regional and long-haul truck operations where fuel efficiency, payload and productivity are crucial.
“With a higher proportion of biogas, climate impact can be reduced far more. For transport operations in urban environments, where range is not as critical, electrified vehicles will play a greater role in the future.”
