The Government of Ontario in Canada has opened new off-road cycling and a walking path in Town of Tecumseh that connects nearby trails.

The new path is expected to improve both safety and convenience for cyclists and pedestrians in the region.

Part of the Rotary (1918) Centennial Hub, the new 3.5km off-road cycling and walking path has established a new connectivity to the existing Herb Grey Parkway Trail and the Trans Canada Trail.

Ontario Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca said: “The opening of this high-demand connection is tremendous news for the Town of Tecumseh and all of Essex-County.

“This new path will now connect you with other cycling trails in this region, making cycling safer and more easily accessible for locals and tourists alike.

“We are committed to continue working together with our local municipalities and the cycling community to build the infrastructure that will make Ontario a cycling leader in North America.”

The provincial government is providing financial assistance to all municipalities across Ontario in order to build new or improve existing cycling infrastructure, including on-road cycling lanes, off-road cycling and walking paths.

As part of this initiative, the Tecumseh town received C$325,000 ($259,263) through the Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure programme.

According to the government, investing in cycling infrastructure not only helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions across Ontario but also increases safety for cyclists and makes cycling more comfortable.
