IRU joins with EU business to call for smooth Brexit transition

IRU has joined forces with Europe’s other leading transport and business organisations to call for a smooth Brexit transition period that ensures a continuation of frictionless customs and trade procedures. A seamless transition period between the United Kingdom leaving the European Union and a comprehensive deal on future relations is essential for businesses if they are to maintain their competitiveness.

Any transitional arrangements must replicate the current commercial, regulatory and trading environment. This guarantee needs to be provided urgently if industry is to plan and invest appropriately for what takes place in March 2019, when the United Kingdom will leave the European Union.  The transition period should last until a long-term EU-UK partnership agreement is in place. The details of any agreement must be known sufficiently in advance for businesses to adapt and implement any changes.
