Two crew members from a Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier have died in what has been reported as a “gas leak” aboard the vessel off India on Sunday.
The victims were crew members of the MV Feng Hui Hai, which had just arrived at an outer anchorage at Port of Naviakhi to discharge a cargo of coal from Indonesia when the incident was reported.
According to local media reports, the master of the vessel notified port officials at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday saying that four crew members had been injured. The victims were taken to a hospital ashore where two of them later died. A third person is in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation suggested that the victims entered a confined space aboard the vessel while responding to a gas leak, reports said.
The incident is under investigation by relevant authorities.
The 63,000 dwt Feng Hui Hai is operated COSCO Shipping Bulk, an affiliate of COSCO Shipping, and was delivered 2017. AIS shipping tracking data shows the vessel at anchor at Naviakhi on the west coast of India.
