TEE International to install noise barriers along Singapore MRT line

Engineering group TEE International's wholly owned subsidiary PBT Engineering has secured contracts worth a combined S$56.5m ($41.5m) from Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) to implement noise barriers along phase two of the country's new rail viaduct.

PBT Engineering is set to supply noise barriers for installation along the elevated tracks at existing MRT viaducts in the eastern, western and northern parts of Singapore under the new deals, which are known as Contract 1363A and Contract 1363B.

The new barriers are said to be help mitigate noise pollution during the operation of the railway.

The company will also design, supply and install the noise barrier systems at both sides of the existing MRT viaducts as part of the agreement.

"PBT Engineering is set to supply noise barriers for installation along the elevated tracks at existing MRT viaducts in the eastern, western and northern parts of Singapore."

In addition, it will conduct noise measurement at the viaduct sites before and after installing the equipment in order to validate the effectiveness of the noise barrier systems.

Work on the project has already commenced and is expected to be completed by 2020.

The company noted that the latest deal has increased the total values of its outstanding orders to S$252.8m ($185m).

TEE International, along with its subsidiaries and associate companies, currently holds business interests in real estate and infrastructure across Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.

LTA is responsible for regulating and supervising the operations of Singapore's three primary modes of public transport, including taxis, buses and trains.

The MRT's regular operations and related maintenance works are overseen by SMRT Trains and SBS Transit.
