The contracts were awarded through Pagabo’s civil engineering and infrastructure framework to support the upgrade of London Underground’s Piccadilly line.
This project, aimed at modernising one of the city’s busiest transport routes, will introduce new trains, expand capacity, and improve the overall passenger experience.
As part of the Piccadilly Line Upgrade, Transport for London (TfL) has appointed VolkerFitzpatrick and Taylor Woodrow to deliver Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) services for the Cockfosters and Northfields depots respectively.
These facilities will be essential for the operation and maintenance of the line’s 94 new trains, forming a critical element of the project.
The two contractors were selected under a single procurement, streamlining the process while adhering to compliance standards.
The upgrade project will be delivered in two phases, with the ECI stage preceding the detailed design and build stage. Construction of the new depot facilities is expected to commence in 2025 to support the new Siemens Mobility-built trains.
Evangelos Maltezos, Project Director at Taylor Woodrow said:
“We are thrilled to have been appointed a key role in the Piccadilly Line Upgrade, and enhancing the lives of commuters. We are looking forward to demonstrating our technical expertise, our capability in managing complex interfaces and fostering a collaborative approach to achieving success on the project.”
This project is part of a broader effort to deliver large-scale infrastructure improvements across London, with nine other projects also procured through Pagabo’s civil engineering framework.
