As one of Île-de-France’s oldest tram lines, originally connecting Asnières-sur-Seine to Noisy-le-Sec since 1992, the T1 is undergoing a modernisation, with a focus on accessibility and passenger comfort.
Since June 2024, the new TW20 trams have been undergoing dynamic testing across the Paris region, particularly on the T1 and T8 lines. These tests ensure the trams function properly in real traffic conditions before they enter regular service.
The final steps before the launch now include completing network compatibility tests and training operators to drive the new vehicles.
Key Features of the New TW20 Tram:
-
100% Accessibility: The tram features six double doors (1.3 metres wide), designated spaces, and deployable ramps to accommodate passengers with reduced mobility.
-
Real-Time Passenger Information: Each tram includes 20 screens providing both audio and visual updates in real-time.
-
Modern Amenities: USB charging ports and full air conditioning to enhance the passenger experience.
-
Increased Capacity: The TW20 offers 15% more capacity than the older models currently in use on the T1 line.
-
Sustainability: The tram is made from 95% recyclable materials and can be reused up to 99%.
As the dynamic tests conclude and staff training progresses, the T1 tram line is on track to deliver a modern, eco-friendly, and passenger-oriented transit experience to residents of Île-de-France by the end of 2024.
